BWCA/Camping Gear Checklist

Are you heading out on a canoe/portage-style camping trip? You’ll want to check out this gear list first. These essentials might make or break your trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA(W)) or another similar place.

GROUP GEAR

Canoe

Food Pack, Camp Kitchen or Front Pack

Tent, Stakes and Poles

  • Repair kit – duct tape, sewing kit, super glue
  • Paracord
  • Rain fly
  • Ground cloth or tarp

PERSONAL GEAR

The following stuff sacks will all fit in our canoe packs. Try the #2, #3, #4 Duluth Pack, Monarch or Timber Cruiser:

Stuff Sack #1 – Sleeping Gear

Stuff Sack #2 – Clothing

If trip is before June or after August

Stuff Sack #3 – Miscellaneous Items

Under Top Flap of Pack

  • Rain jacket and pants
  • One tarp per canoe for covering packs while paddling

Fanny Pack, Pockets and Thwart Bags

Additional Items
