    for my mom

Hi, I have many Duluth pack products which I like enormously, and I am a pro photographer. I would enter your competition for fun, having many fun shots of my kids lugging their well travelled and badged bags all over the world.

However your terms of competition are frankly upsetting and a little insulting to all….. A prize of $100, and yet all entries can be used for any/all publicity by yourselves. How much would you have had to pay to buy these images from a slide library for use in an emailer, online or catalogue?

I think that these competitions can be great fun, but you need to respect your clients and enthusiastic users of your products. Having a clause like this in the entry suggests to me a shameless ploy to get good quality images for nothing. Really you should say that you have the option to purchase the images for your publicity, and the winning images may be used for publicity ( but i would suggest a prize that reflects the possible usage). Other photocompetions from higher profile companies have got bad press due to clauses like this.

    I await your response,

    Mike carsley

      Hi Mike,

Thank you for your comment. We definitely understand your concerns and your position with our contest. In no way did we want to offend professional photographers like yourself. This contest is something that our fans request from us and overwhelmingly support. It is for the amateur photographer who would love to win the $100 gift card to buy the pack they’ve been wanting.

Although we love to see professional-quality submissions, we do not expect that. When we are looking for a high-quality marketing image we take them in house (we have also been approached by professional photographers offering to take some photos in exchange for gear.) We know that all of our fans take awesome trips and we want to encourage them to share with us their great pictures! That is what this competition is about. Then we can show our craftsmen and women where the bags they made have been, and we can brag about how amazing our fans are.

We would have loved to have you submit the photos of your kids with their packs, but understand if you are uncomfortable with this. Here at Duluth Pack, we don’t want to exploit, we just want to share the love.

Again, thank you for your valued feedback. All the best,

      Abby, Duluth Pack Marketing Team

I feel the Duluth Pack love. Great company, great products, and great marketing. I hope to get to Duluth this summer as it has been several years. The Duluth Pack store will definitely be a stop. I very much enjoy your facebook page and the pictures. Keep up the good work!
