DULUTH PACK CLEAN AND CARE

May 23, 2016
View More: http://redmonddigitalmedia.pass.us/duluthpack

One of the top questions we are constantly asked is on the lines of, “How do I clean my Duluth Pack?” To help you out, here is what we have always recommended to help not only clean but keep the longevity of your Duluth Pack items whether they be canvas or leather.

1) How do I clean my Duluth Pack?

We DO NOT recommend putting our packs in a washing machine as it may have the potential to compromise the integrity of the bag. We do recommend washing our packs by hand with a mild detergent (i.e. unscented hand soap, dish detergent, etc.). Please feel free to check out our website with care instructions and a tutorial of how to do so.

2) What do I do if my Duluth Pack gets wet?

It’s life, it happens. Let your pack air dry completely in a well ventilated area. Also remember to condition your leather! Hello, leather is skin. Skin gets dry, so condition it every so often. We recommend our selection of the brand LEXOL that has cleaners and conditions. Available both in store at 365 Canal Park Drive and online at www.duluthpack.com.

3) Where do I send my Duluth Pack for repairs?

Send your repair to: 1610 W Superior St, Duluth, MN 55806. Please remember to include a note with your contact information, mailing address, and a description of what repairs you would like us to do. We will give you a call for any estimates, and we will not repair your pack until you approve them.

Now, these are the top questions/concerns/comments we hear almost on a daily basis. You, our customer and us here at the Duluth Pack team respect and understand the craftsmanship, time, effort, and care it took to not only create that precious bag of yours, but the adventures and memories associated with it. We want you to get the best care possible all around with Duluth Pack and that requires what goes in and on your pack as well.

MORE THAN STRONG AND QUALITY PRODUCTS

November 30, 2015
DULUTH PACK

Why do you love your Duluth Pack?

Is it because it is a canvas and leather pack that carries your essentials to and from work, in the thickest of forests, or down the river bends? Or maybe it’s because your Duluth Pack does all of the above, but most importantly you build strong and quality filled relationship with it too. Not only have we has a company been around the block a time or two, but we have been making memories with you and your family since 1882. As we say, Duluth Pack is more than strong and quality products. We’re your friend. We focus and cherish our strong and quality filled relationship with you.

Everyday, we strive to have at least one person become a part of the so called, “Duluth Pack family”. Once you own a Duluth Pack, we want you to know how much we appreciate you. You’re one of us. AKA: the thriving adventurer, pizza loving (extra cheese, please!) , positive viewing, go big or go home kind of pal.

That’s what we intend with our connections outside of Duluth Pack as well. We want to connect, network, and build prospering friendships with our dealers, our collaborators, and partners in crime (let’s be real, there is never any crime). When we hunt, seek, and bop around looking for the best of the best to collaborate with, we want to carry a friendship that lasts longer than just one photo shoot or one blog post. We want to build memories together that we can look back on and smile, plus become inspired and influenced on.

A take away from today’s post, “You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.” It’s always better to be sweet than sorry. Focus on the quality of people, things, and products around you rather than the quantity.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend ahead!

The temperatures are dropping, the leaves are changing colors, the loon calls are diminishing, but the fish are biting. Fall fishing season is one that we do not take advantage of one bit. We relish in the time of crisp air, hot apple cider beverages, cozy wool blankets, and a fishing rod in our hands. Life by the lake is near perfection.

This year, we have become incredibly close with photographer, Kiley Marissa. She brings a spunk and artistic viewpoint to showcase not only our canvas and leather products, but promote the emotional connection behind the packs. She gets that our goods creates stories and last a lifetime. As we say, “Making memories since 1882″. P.s. check out Kiley’s website HERE

What is your favorite memory on the lake? Is it with your parents when you were a little tyke? Just last week with your beloved? On the water with your granddaddy and you beat him with the bigger fish? Maybe it was the time you didn’t catch a single thing, but laughed the entire time in the cold. Whichever moment you have, we want to be there with you. Check out our Duluth Pack fishing themed products in our retail store or on our website.

MY DULUTH PACK SAVED MY LIFE

August 31, 2015
IMG_0624

IMG_0057

They are the most humbling of stories when we hear that Duluth Pack products have impacted people’s lives for the better. Whether that be helping through portages, assisting by carrying books to class or we actually save someone’s life. Today’s post is based on an email that our team recently received this past month from one of our customers. It made our jaw’s drop and gave us gigantic goosebumps. Get ready for a story of a lifetime!

Please note: The customer has given Duluth Pack the approval to share her story with her Duluth Pack along with the photos to prove her point.

Hello Duluth Pack – I am sure like most reviews and comments in emails you receive, there may be more negative than positive comments. However, if you give me a few moments I would like to tell you a story.

My name is Megan Thun I am 25 years old and I was born and raised in Silver Bay, MN just North of Duluth. For years I have wanted a Duluth Pack and never had the funds to buy one after all the college tuition and rent bills. I envied those who had them, and assured myself that I would spoil myself one day with a forest green Duluth Pack. Another year passed and it just was not a necessity, just a luxury.

So last fall I put Duluth Pack on my Christmas list (That my aunt requires me to do). I don’t like asking for gifts, so Christmas lists are low on priority shelf. However, I thought to myself “Why not?”.

Then Christmas came around. I opened a box from my aunt, and low and behold, a forest green Duluth Pack sat in the folds of wrapping paper. I fell in love immediately! It was perfect, it smelled great, and felt comfortable on my shoulder. I cleaned my stuff out of my old bag that night and switched my essentials over to the pack.

Now, when I get into a vehicle to drive I don’t take my purse or bag off. It has something to do with comfort and snugness in the driver’s seat. All my relatives think it is weird. Which leads me to the rest of the story.

On January 7th 2015, I drove my sisters dog to the vetrinarian in Ely, MN. It had snowed early in the morning and the woods were beautiful, but the roads were a tad slippery. So I took my time up to Ely. I dropped my sisters dog off and headed back to Silver Bay slow but sure. I was thinking of going snowshoeing when I got back, but it was rather cold that day (a balmy -20 degrees). I was about half way in between Silver Bay and Ely on Hwy 1, when my back wheels hit a patch of black ice. I took my foot off the brake and let the car slow down and drive out of the slippery patch. But nothing helped. My car was fish tailing around the corner. When I looked up my heart sank… A logging truck was coming around the corner and my car was slipping right into its path.

I turned the car enough to miss the front of the logging truck, but it was not enough. When I realized I was not going to miss the trailer of the logging truck I let go of the steering wheel and closed my eyes. I figured, that was it. In those split seconds I remember thinking “Nobody lives through these accidents.” (please don’t stop reading).

I opened my eyes and relized I had made it out of the accident with my life. My car was in pieces on the highway and I had no windsheild. Miraculously I had no cuts or scrapes. My driver’s side door looked like a crumpled piece of paper. Luckily, my arm was tucked between me and my Duluth Pack. It was a buffer between the tangled metal mess just inches away from me. It saved my arm from injury or worse possibilities. I thank God that I had it with me that day and did not take a wallet instead. I sat in the freezing cold for and hour and twenty minutes, waiting to be cut out of the car that held me prisoner.

When the EMT’s finally cut the car apart and freed me and EMT told me to sit very still (standard medical percautions; in case of brain or spinal injury). I remember him saying “We’re going to take your purse and put it in the Sherriff’s vehicle. (He grabbed the Duluth Pack and pulled). I informed him that it was attached to me over the shoulders. He then yelled to one of the other EMT’s that were there, “Someone get me the cutting shears!”

They say in times of stress you forget your reactions or how you handle situations. This time was one of them. I cannot recall if I said this next sentence with poise or out of straight irritaion. I said, “No! You can pull it over my head and slide it off, but don’t you cut it!” (the poor EMT got the brunt of my reaction, and I am sure he thought I was crazy. I was possibly injured, trapped in a car, and freezing, and still barking orders.) The EMT oblidged and took the Duluth Pack over my head. I cannot recall whether I said thank you, because soon after that they pulled me out of the seat and put me in the ambulance, everything after that gets fuzzy and blurry.

When I got to the hospital I was told I had a dislocated hip. They popped it back in and then I had to have hip surgery to repair the damage. I am just about back to normal now and have little to no pain.

The scratches on my Duluth pack are a constant reminder that I was very close to more serious injuries, not ruling out fatal injuries.

So in conclusion I would like to personally thank you for making such strong reliable bags. They are more than just carriers for us. They are what hold our essentials that makes our lives go around, and they hold memories and emotions that are not visible or tangible in this world. For me my Duluth Pack was a life saver.

Have a great rest of the summer! I am sure the tourists keep you busy! I attached pictures so you have something to pair to the long story I just told you.

Sincerely,

Megan H. Thun

If you have a story with your Duluth Pack, please email our team at: [email protected] and we would love to hear how Duluth Pack has been integrated into your life.

Thank you for your loyalty and support! Please know, our lifetime guarantee can mean more than just the craftsmanship and hardware in our products, as Megan so thoroughly describes. If you’re interested, buy Megan’s style of bag HERE.

THE TOAST OF THE TOWN!

June 22, 2015
image 3

We eat to live, not live to eat. Well.. sometimes here in the marketing department we twist the phrase a bit. Hello, we love our carbs and can’t deny a diet Coke every so often. Plus, who doesn’t REALLY want a donut on a Friday after a busy as a bee week? Come on, don’t deny it. WE ALL DO!

Anyways, back to the meat and potatoes of this notion (yes, a food phrase was needed) we’re excited to share what our tastebuds have been craving and what we are on the verge of drooling for. What does that entail? We’re promoting some recipes that were found either on Pinterst, dusted out of our cupboards, passed down from Grandma, or a savory dish we whipped up from the creative imagination. If you have any dishes that are drool worthy, please send them onto us! We would love to test them out ourselves!

Can you tell we have a sweet tooth? Yep, these cookie dough frosting cupcakes are EXACTLY what we want right now! See here!

We’re all about the savory dishes, too! Good day, carbs! We fancy you !

Sour is right up our alley, too! Come the sizzling Duluth summers, these will be a must-have on a daily rotation!

This will be slurped down plenty of times here at Duluth Pack – can guarantee that. Plus, energy? Booyah!

Even though we are Northerners, we are oh so festive when it comes to Taco Tuesdays! Get in my belly, home-made Crunch Wrap Supreme ! Healthiest? No way, Jose. But, when you’re running around work all day and who cares (that’s how it goes, right?) .

Stomach rumbling now? Ours are! We’re all about, ‘sharing is caring’ here at Duluth Pack. If you have something that needs to be in the limelight, tell us! We’re becoming hungry, hungry hippos over here!

TRAVEL GUIDE: DULUTH DO’S

June 11, 2015
image1

If you’re taking a trip to the Northland coming up, 1) we’re excited for you and 2) you need to know the tricks of the trade when visiting this glorious city! We consider all of you our friends, so we want to share with you the best locations to relax, gobble down bites, lodge at, adventure to see and of course drop a few dollars at (365 Canal Park Drive – wink, wink) .

Here is a lineup of all the must, need, gotta have do’s of Duluth, Minnesota in our opinion.

Your stomach is talking to you and you’re on the verge of drooling because of how hungry you are. Where on Earth should you spend you pretty penny on a meal that will leave you full, happy and craving another visit back? Look no further. Here is our go-to agenda for you.

1) You can’t beat a crunchy and deliciously filled egg roll. You just can’t . Our (basically neighbors) friends at Taste of Saigon in the Dewitt Seitz Building cook a mean lunch menu and trust us, you HAVE to have one (or five – no judgements from us) of their homemade egg rolls. The sound affect from this egg roll alone will make you feel like you’re in a commercial for these. Seriously, I’m now craving one. No exaggeration here.

2) Breakfast time is the best time, or so we believe. A hardy and delicious brunch is just the ticket to starting your day off in Duluth on the right foot. Say hello to (hands down) one of the best brunches and it’s conveniently located in Canal Park, Duluth, MN – Amazing Grace Cafe! This eatery is tucked away in the basement of the DeWitt Seitz building and has an array of bakery and breakfast dishes that are a knock out, plus they make killer good mimosas. Trust us, you’ll feel like you’re waddling out of the place, because you had to take at least one bit of everything (and it’s oh so worth it!) .

3) Brew pubs, yes please! Our great friends at Fitger’s Brewhouse on Superior St. crush the competition when it comes to great grub, an awesome atmosphere and the tastiest beer around. Ps: we make growler packs for them! Check out the selection here . Picking “favorites” on their menu is a real head scratcher, because you can’t just pick one! Here is a quick run down of what you need to take a nibble out of. Fish tacos, yes! Maple salad, always! Burgers, yum! Now don’t even get us started not their bevy selection – it’s too hard to choose!

Now that you have filled up on tasty treats, it’s time to burn off some fuel and get your body moving and grooving.

Hello, Duluth Lakewalk! There are so many activate that you can partake in on this gorgeous and scenic area. First off, you can rent one of the many different types of bicycles available. Have a group of 5? Don’t sweat it – there is a bicycle available (ps: you can really motor in these things once you start!) . Maybe biking isn’t your forte and that’s a-okay! The most common of the activities on the Duluth Lakewalk consist of individuals and groups walking, jogging and running around Lake Superior. It’s a phenomenal location to prep for Grandma’s Marathon that is always hosted in the Canal Park region of Duluth, MN. On a side note, have any of you ran Grandma’s Marathon before? If so, kudos from your friends at Duluth Pack! Here I go getting sidetracked, oofta sorry folks! Maybe running, biking and walking isn’t what you crave in the Northland, but if you’re fan of four legged mammals you’re in luck. Say hello to the horses. Horse drawn carriages are available and give a fun and exciting ride during the day and a romantic edge during the nightlife along the water. The last and final idea around the lakewalk involves being a beach bum and if being that way is wrong, well, we don’t want to be right! Throwing the pebbles and laying out on the warm rocks and sand is always a fan favorite during the gorgeous summer days.

SHT. This may look like a bad word missing one letter, but don’t worry it’s the farthest thing from that! SHT stands for the famous Superior Hiking Trail that runs right through our backyard (basically) . It’s the perfect sanctuary that allows one to get away from the city life and become one with nature. Strolling through the pine filled lands is almost like a dream. Fun Fact: Duluth Pack proudly adopted a section of the SHT to clean, tidy and fix up during the year. It’s in great pride that we can step in and do our part with the Superior Hiking Trail!

LODGING

Time to lay that noggin of yours down and dream of the following day in Duluth. Location. Location. Location. We hear we, we know it and listen to it. As buddies of yours, we highly recommend for you, your family and friends to enjoy your stay in Canal Park during the summertime. The sounds from Lake Superior crashing on the shores, the convenience of shopping (cough – the Duluth Pack store) , eateries and adventure locations, like Vertical Endeavors is a hoot! A similar vibe-esque as the Duluth Pack retail store is the hotel called, “Canal Park Lodge”. It’s the perfect combination of modern meets rugged and they have breakfast in the a.m. PS: BOOK EARLY These hotels go fast, fast, fast!

Now that you know some of the most lusted after restaurants, lodging, shopping and activities we can’t wait to hear about all of your upcoming travels and memories from the Duluth area!
